Mathematics in Lyceum Chernomorsky
Mathematics is one of the most important lessons in our school. Teaching mathematics starts in the first class and all the students learn Mathematics up to graduation. Till the seventh class, this lesson is named as Mathematics and then it is named as Algebra andGeometry.
Mathematics is one of the compulsory exams to enter our school. Students who want to register our school have to show their proficiency in Math. In the entrance exams, the student has to
take at least 6 points out of 12 because 12 is the maximum mark in the education system of Ukraine.
In all grades, we use the math curriculum and math books which are advised by Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. We also use some extra English Math books which are from different countries and there are some books which are prepared by ourEnglish Math teachers. Our teachers use so many different methods to teach Mathematics to their students in the easiest way in the shortest time. They very often use smart board for interactive lessons to make lessons more understandable, interesting, clear and visual.
As one of the differences of Lyceum Chernomorsky, the language of science lessons is English after the 7th grade. In the seventh grade we have a terminology lesson for English Math once a week. Starting with the 8th form, we teach Mathematics by using English language. This is a great chance for the students who want to go abroad for higher education.
Each year we organize a Math month in order to show some more interesting parts of the Mathematics, to make Mathematics lovelier and to give much more time students to demonstrate their mathematical knowledge and abilities. In these days we do so many different activities such as wallpapers, IQ tests, Math theater, integrated lessons, open lessons, conferences, seminars, math-computer projects, competitions etc. In this period, not only students, everybody really enjoys and they see one more time how much Math is very important and it takes a very deep place in our lives. Everyone feels that Math is the mother and father of all the other sciences after our math month.
Lyceum Chernomorsky students prepare to participate all Math Olympiads, be it national or international. Our students have taken many certificates in different degrees in national Olympiads. They actively participate the international Math Olympiad "Kangaroo" and they have taken many red diplomas. Lyceum Chernomorsky invites private schools to organize the Kangaroo Olympiad together in order to make this Olympiad more exciting for students.
Lyceum Chernomorsky also organizes a Math Olympiad for the 6th grade students of Odessa city every year. About 50 schools participate this Olympiad by sending the best 3 students from their schools. Lyceum Chernomorsky gives many valuable presents to participant schools, students and teachers who prepare the students.
